Online Star Digital turned 3 years old this May – and, what a three years it has certainly been for all of us. Time flies, as they say, and with scarcely a dull moment, the rollercoaster of starting a business then navigating head-on into the pandemic has provided some stern tests. Not least the amount of work – since 2020, there has been a growth of approximately 25% in the number of sellers listing products on Amazon. That’s a staggering explosion, carried to some degree on the back of lockdowns and uptake in online shopping. In the summer of 2020, a Dragon from Dragon’s Den stated that the pandemic had accelerated online shopping in the UK by 5 years. We wouldn’t necessarily disagree with that.
2020 saw a number of evolutions; whether it be new terminology to many of us (social distancing or more recently, partygate, anyone?), the seismic shift of consumer behaviour and how people shop, the challenges presented to brands facing unanticipated demand, or the changing face of how online content is created and consumed. Here we saw an uplift in projects, some exciting pivots for a number of brands, and a renewed focus on excellent content online.
As we headed into 2021, the turbulence of the times certainly continued. Some unexpected weather-related issues arose for us to contend with (the floods which hit parts of the country in January 2021 particularly impacted us here), and consumer habits continued to chop and change. We’d first scoped updating our website in 2020, however, it became the classic case of the cobblers’ shoes. We were so busy working on projects and ensuring client online content was not only launched but of high quality, that our own website languished behind as something of an afterthought.
However, what better way to mark a 3rd birthday than with a new website. We’re delighted to hit both milestones. Whilst the outlook remains unclear in terms of how the economy and online trends will shape up through 2022, two things are for certain: online shopping never sleeps – and neither does our passion for pursuing excellence!
